Glossary

APPLICANT = individual or company who holds rights on the patent. In our reports individual applicants have been excluded where counts by applicants are displayed.


COUNTRY = Country code as define in ISO 3166-1.


INVENTOR = individual who created the patented innovation.


IPC = international patent classification. Provides for a hierarchical system of language independent symbols for the classification of patents and utility models according to the different areas of technology to which they pertain


OST30 = a technol­ogy-ori­ented classifi­cation, jointly elabo­rated by Fraunhofer Gesellschaft-ISI (Karlsruhe), Institut National de la Propriété In­dus­trielle (INPI, Paris) and Observatoire des Sciences and des Techniques (OST, Paris). This classifica­tion aggre­gates all IPC codes into thirty tech­nology fields.


YEAR = priority year, defined as date of the first filing (in any patent office also different from EPO) of the patent.

 

Note: many reports display a dropbox that helps users to select a value for displaying results (FI countries, regions, IPCs...).
Where a value is not listed in the dropbox, no record is contained in the DB for such a value.
